VOICE LESSONS
Developing Your Voice
Training the voice with the whole body in mind.
My goal is to guide you toward your fullest potential as a singer. In doing so, I draw on a lifetime of experience in professional performance and teaching to help you learn and develop healthy technique.
I will tailor our voice lessons to your skill level and desired outcomes while building a strong foundation in proper breath support, diction, vowel formation, resonance, and performance—all while ensuring that your entire body develops the muscle memory to support and strengthen your instrument.
The Details
Flexible But Principled: I will adapt my teaching style and methods to your needs, while remaining true to the tenets of proper voice pedagogy, including everything from proper vowel formation to breath support.
Personalized Lessons: Each lesson is specially tailored to meet your specific needs, considering your experience, skill level, and goals. Each singer has a distinctive voice; my goal is to develop it to its ultimate potential.
Widely-Ranging Expertise: I am equally adept in many musical genres, including, but not limited to, opera, oratorio, sacred, musical theatre, gospel, jazz, and the Great American Songbook. I am also conversant in English, Italian, German, French, and Spanish diction.
Enduring Foundations: My teaching will prepare you for a lifetime of singing with healthy vocal technique, breath control, lack of tension in the body, correct vowel formation, proper diction, eloquent musical phrasing, and dramatic presentation.
How We Can Work Together
Studio Lessons.
Students are welcome to come to my studio for face-to-face lessons in an environment purpose-built for training your voice and developing strong vocal technique.
Home Lessons.
If you are living at a reasonably close distance to my studio, I can travel to your home to provide specialized vocal lessons in a setting familiar to you.
Virtual Lessons.
For students who are less flexible or who live further away, you may request virtual lessons.
Lessons generally range from half an hour for younger students to an hour for adults. Though I offer lessons for students of all ages, it is usually best to wait until the age of 12 or 14 to begin formal training.
My lessons do not have a strict format, though we will focus on breathing technique, correct body positioning, vowel formation, vocal exercises, and learning suitable music. Additionally, I am adept in multiple languages and do not discriminate based on skill level or vocal type when accepting students.
Your development is very much determined by how much you are willing to practice outside of our studio lessons is desired, encouraged, and will only help to expedite your training.
